Cohort Studios Limited closing the doors to their Scottish Studio.

SUMMARY OF RELEASE

EXPANDED RELEASE

It is with great sadness that Cohort Studios Limited have announced this week that they are to close the doors to their Scottish Studio.

Founded in 2006, Cohort Studios is responsible for developing The Shoot; a first party PlayStation Move launch title for SCEE (2010).  They have also worked on a number of well known titles that include the Buzz!™ Junior franchise and Lemmings including assistance work on Burnout Paradise and Motorstorm.

This news will no doubt come as a shock to the industry and has simply been attributed to the difficulties of being a console developer in a declining console marketplace.

Commenting on this very difficult situation, Lol Scragg CEO of Cohort, adds "It really is with great saddness that we have been left with no alternative but to start winding down.  Making all 25 employees redundant is genuinely heartbreaking.  It goes without saying that we wish them all every success, as they really are a very talented team and we are actively trying to seek employment for each and every one of them.  As we entered 2011, we have looked to change the direction of our business but unfortunately we ran out of time".

Cohort are actively asking any companies looking to recruit to pass over any details so they can pass them to their staff.

The news comes as Cohort are about to see the global release of their first self-published game– Me Monstar: Hear Me Roar!  This title is due for release as a PlayStation® mini in the first week of May, and will be available to purchase on the PlayStation®Store, on both the PlayStation®3 and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable).  Who knows, if this game is a‘roaring’ success– the doors of Cohort Studios may very well reopen as there is a Me Monstar 2 just bursting to get out!
