Cool Queue Studios turns to Kickstarter to fund “Galactic Domination Online”

San Diego, CA (WEB) April 2, 2013 – Game Developer Scott Quiggle’s company Cool Queue Studios is turning to the Internet to raise funds for its project, Galactic Domination Online, a free-to-play space strategy game targeted at the social media market. With funding as the first major obstacle to getting any game off the ground, current economic conditions don't make the job any easier. Angel investors are hard to find, and traditional publishers are impenetrable for startups. Game developers have to become more innovative in their fundraising tactics, and, as evidenced by the successes of DoubleFine Studios Adventure and more recently Obsidian Entertainment’s Project Eternity, the gaming community has embraced sites like

In line with guidelines, developers have a set number of days to raise all the funds, or the project receives nothing. Cool Queue Studios has a 50-day fundraising window, from start to finish. If the allotted budget ($600,000 US) isn't raised before May 22nd, all pledges are cancelled and the game will not be funded.

When asked about why Kickstarter was appealing, Quiggle noted, "The online community has shown its desire and support for new games. Being a Kickstarter gives people previously unavailable access to the game development process, and with constant project updates it makes them feel like they are a part of it. In fact, backers ARE a part of it." An added advantage for developers is Kickstarter's merchant partner, which enables each project the convenience of receiving funds from anywhere in the world. Quiggle entered the online fundraising pool as a “reach for the brass ring”. "Seeing the success of other game companies gave me the courage to put my own game out there. If they can do it with old fashioned reboots and sequels then we can do it with new and innovative ideas to a genre that needs a breath of fresh air".

Cool Queue Studios game Galactic Domination Online, sets players up on the galactic rim with the goal to build an empire and reunite their race. The game offers four races to choose from in game play and one mutual enemy, the machine race know as “the Core”. After a thousand years of genocide at the hands of the Core, an unexplained paradigm shift in the universe has disrupted and disorganized the indestructible Core machines. Players must regain systems previously lost to the Core, form alliances, and compete with each other as they colonize and conquer their way to the ultimate goal, defeat the evil machines, capture Core Prime, and hold it.

The game offers a high level of strategy, cooperation and opposition from other players, character building, and a convenient “contact” option so that players “can go about their normal lives as citizens” and be alerted when something “big” happens. It will be created by a team of experienced professionals in San Diego following industry standard Agile Development methodologies. If the game is successfully funded, Quiggle expects to deliver the game in early 2014.
