DreamHack 2010: The final of one of the toughest eSports leagues at the world’s largest LAN party

Cologne, November 24, 2010– Turtle Entertainment, the leading eSports company from Germany, presents the final of the Scandinavian league for professional gamers (ESL Pro Series Nordic) at the DreamHack Winter 2010, the largest LAN party in the world. The event will take place on November 25– 28, 2010 at the Elmia Exhibition Center in Jönköping, Sweden. The best professional players from Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland will compete for their share of 12,800 Euro in total prize purse in the following disciplines: Counter-Strike 1.6 and Starcraft 2. The tournament will be broadcasted live from the venue by ESL TV, ESL’s web-TV service.

The final event held at the DreamHack Winter 2010 will be the highlight of the third season of the ESL Pro Series Nordic. After eleven weeks of online competition four teams in Counter-Strike 1.6 and four players in Starcraft 2 will clash in a battle to determine Scandinavia’s best in each discipline. The list of the participants includes such international eSports celebrities like Fredrik“MaDFroG” Johansson in SC2 or team FnaticMSI in CS1.6. Apart from the titles, the winners of the competition will take home a share of 12,800 Euro in cash prizes. The final event is supported by Intel and Alienware, the official partners of the ESL Pro Series Nordic.

DreamHack is currently the largest LAN party in the world. With about 10,450 computers connected to the network, it holds the official record in the Guinness Book of Records. Apart from the numerous professional computer games competitions, it stages a variety of tradeshow booths, public service stalls and a lecture area (“DreamExpo”). Last year’s event attracted over 14,000 video games enthusiasts.

ESL Pro Series Nordic

Intel® The ESL Pro Series is the national league for professional gamers. Only the best of the Scandinavia region qualify for the league and fight for the championship. 12,800 Euro is at stake. More than 500,000 Euro in prize money were paid out across Europe in the year 2008. The system and structure is comparable to established national leagues from traditional sports. The main sponsors of the EPS Nordic are Intel and Alienware.

The ESL Pro Series in Scandinavia consists of the games like Counter-Strike 1.6, Counter-Strike:Source and Starcraft 2. From 12 to 14 teams or single participants in each game compete for 12,800 Euro. The winners of each season are found at the ESL Pro Series Finals at the end of each season. The season is played using the round robin system - each team plays another team exactly once using a fix schedule of playdays. Winners of the ESL Pro Series can qualify for the Intel Extreme Masters - the eSports league of champions. The ESL pro Series Nordic is in its 3rd season. Qualification for the ESL Pro Series is handled through the ESL Amateur Series in which any clan can participate.
