e-virtuoses : THE EUROPEAN SERIOUS GAMES CONFERENCE IS BACK THIS 23rd AND 24th MAY 2012

Valenciennes, France, 5 april 2012 - Today marks the official launch of e-virtuoses 2012.  Organised by the Grand Hainaut Chamber of Commerce (CCI),  the international Serious game conference opens its doors this May 23 rd and 24 th at the Phénix in Valenciennes, north of France. 

For its 4 th edition, the event will be based on four central themes: 

  • Communication & marketing, 
  • Training & education, 
  • Risk & crisis management,
  • Evaluation & measurement of the impact of Serious games.

Today also marks the launch of two e-virtuoses initiatives: the "e-virtuoses Awards 2012", and the call for contributions for the scientific symposium.

Finding the best Serious games of today and tomorrow!

The major international competition "e-virtuoses Awards 2012" gives Serious game creators and clients the chance to take home one of four prizes.

16 finalists will be chosen by the pre-selection committee from among the candidates who apply before  1 st May 2012.

The competition is open to any Serious game that has either already launched or is currently in production.  All the pre-selected candidates will be called upon to present and passionately defend their projects in front of the independent international jury on 23 rd May at the Valenciennes Digital Workshops (named Ateliers Numériques de Valenciennes) in the hope of taking home an award in one of the following four categories:

Serious games already launched:

  • Category 1 : Communication & marketing
  • Category 2 : Training & education
  • Category 3 : Risk & crisis management

Serious games in production:

  • Category 4  :  aimed at Serious games still in production with no restriction on platform, development stage or domain of application.

In parallel with the jury presentations, there will be live demos of all 16 Serious gamefinalists in the hall at the Digital Workshops (named Ateliers Numériques) on the 23 rd and at the Phénix on the 24 th May, with an opportunity for attendees to try each entry for themselves.

The four winners will be announced and presented with their prizes during the official e-virtuoses evening event planned for the 23 rd May.

The competition is open to candidates from today.

Measuring the impact of Serious games: a serious business!

"As part of the scientific symposium of e-virtuoses, we invite researchers looking at the impact of Serious games to share the results of their work with us with the aim of tackling one of the major challenges for the future of Serious games," said Julian Alvarez, Head of Video Game Research at the Grand Hainaut Chamber of Commerce (CCI) and organiser of the scientific symposium.

The symposium entitled ‘Evaluating and measuring the impact of Serious games’ will also take place this coming May 23rd at the Valenciennes Digital Workshops (named Ateliers Numériques de Valenciennes) and will be the subject of a white paper planned for release in Q1 2013.

The deadline for research papers is 9 th April 2012.
