Speaking about the FREE backing offer, which closes on Monday 15 th August (although PAID backing will continue to be offered after this date), Elite® MD Steve Wilcox said,

“... we first learned about AppBackr’s version of the crowd-funding model last summer and have been following its progress ever since. A couple of months ago, in an effort to learn a little more, we offered a thousand copies of the every-green app ‘Jet Set Willy: ZX Spectrum’ for backing. They were all backed in just a few days. The app was launched in Feb ’11, since June more than half of the backed copies of the app have been sold in the iTunes App Store and within the next 6 to 8 weeks all of the backrs can expect to realise a 27% profit*. Not bad when compared to the 2-3% my savings are earning!”

Elite’s latest app, “ Dean Macey’s Decathlon 2012” is now available for backing at AppBackr.

IMPORTANT *: Requires the backed copies of the app to have sold in the iTunes App Store. Backers are paid when the app sells in the App Store. Apps fall into two basic categories. At the time of writing (July ’11), top-selling apps (those in the UK>Games>Arcade Top200 Chart) MAY have upwards of 25 downloads per day, on average. Apps not in the UK>Games>Arcade Top200 Chart MAY have between 0 and 25 downloads per day, on average. The presence or otherwise in such charts, of the app which you wish to back, is an indicator for when (and indeed whether) you will make a profit when the app sells in the App Store. You should consider this carefully before making a decision. If the Total Number of Copies Available for Backing is, say, 2,500 and the app which you wish to back is frequently in UK>Games>Arcade Top200 Chart, then all of the copies backed MAY sell in the App Store in 100 days. However, many apps will take much longer. Some may not sell at all. Also, when considering backing apps tt is wise either to know the developer personally, have solid market knowledge, or have the ability to materially help with distribution of that app. Otherwise, based on typical sales data, the time to get paid can exceed one year. Many companies, including AppAnnie, provide third-party data on app sales and trends, to research an app.
