From 21st to 25th August, Koelnmesse will for the fifth time stage gamescom, the world's biggest trade fair and event highlight for interactive entertainment. For the first time, the exhibition spaces planned for this year's gamescom have been fully booked approximately a week before the trade fair is to begin. Over 635 participating companies (+5%) from more than 40 countries will present the "Next Generation of Gaming" on 140,000 square metres of exhibition space in Cologne. More than 400 innovations will be on show, including the new console generation for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Wii U. Numerous exhibitors will be expanding their presentation areas. More than 275,000 visitors from over 80 countries are expected to attend, including over 24,500 trade visitors and the most important dealers and buyers from Europe and the rest of the world.
The visitors have a lot to look forward to, because the current hall layout shows that many exhibitors are expanding their stand areas and their individual activity areas. The resulting new layout for gamescom promises even more fun and excitement, as well as significantly more innovations, action, adventure and family entertainment. In the business area (Halls 4/5), the trade visitors from more than 80 countries will find significantly more international business, contacts and future-oriented themes. The event's partner country, France (Hall 4.2), will lead the group of international exhibitors. The fifth gamescom will once again offer all of its target groups a tailor-made games platform, including the developers' conference GDC Europe and the gamescom city festival (which will bring in 120,000 additional visitors). Europe's most coveted gaming prize, the gamescom award, will be awarded by an expanded jury of media representatives. The gamescom congress, gamescom campus, cosplay village and the attractive Family Day on the Sunday of the fair, as well as many other outdoor activities, will round off the next generation of gaming at gamescom in Cologne.

The Who's Who of the industry will show the "Next Generation of Gaming"
More than 635 exhibitors (+5%) are expected this year in the Cologne trade fair halls. They will be presenting the next generation of interactive hardware, software and entertainment to the games community. The more than 275,000 visitors from 80 countries who are expected to attend will be able to enjoy trying out the innovations to their hearts' content even before these are launched on the market. This means that gamescom continues to be the key generator of momentum for the industry's upcoming pre-Christmas and Christmas business activities. Once again this year, the best hardware and software at gamescom 2013 will be evaluated by a jury made up of international experts and honoured with the most coveted prize in the games industry, the gamescom award 2013.
Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will jointly lead the list of renowned exhibitors, a veritable Who's Who in the industry. The exhibitors will include Activision Blizzard, AMD, Bethesda Softworks, Bigpoint, Crytek, Deep Silver/Koch Media, Electronic Arts, Konami, NCSOFT, Red 5 Studios, Riot Games, Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft, Wargaming and Warner Bros. Other companies that have already confirmed their participation include AK Tronic, astragon, Bigben Interactive, bitComposer, Caseking, CD Projekt, Constantin Film, Disney, Fishlabs, flashpoint, Gaijin, Gaya Entertainment, Kalypso Media, Korea Creative Content Agency, Mad Catz, Medion, NVIDIA, ProSiebenSat.1, Razer, Roccat, Samsung, UKIE and Turtle Entertainment. The exhibitors' expansion of their activity areas, which in some cases will be enormous, gave Koelnmesse the opportunity to create a new hall layout. The Fanshop Area of gamescom in Hall 9 has been doubled. In Hall 8 visitors will find the online world of gamescom, featuring exhibitors such as NCSOFT, Red 5 Studios, Riot Games, Wargaming and Bigpoint.
Sony Computer Entertainment will occupy its traditional place in Hall 7. Other exhibitors in Hall 7 will include Activision-Blizzard, Crytek and Konami. Microsoft and Ubisoft will present their product portfolio in Hall 6; Electronic Arts and LG Electronics will also be presenting their new impulses there. The new exhibitor Nvidia will receive visitors in Hall 8, and Nintendo, Koch Media, Bethesda and Warner Bros. will join other exhibitors in Hall 9. In addition to the innovations and presentations of the exhibitors, electronic sport — eSport — in Hall 8 will round off the interactive entertainment at gamescom 2013. Once again this year, the best players will compete against one another at the Turtle Entertainment stand in Hall 8 in order to win cash prizes, fame and honour. The entertainment area of gamescom will thus become a mecca for all players of interactive games and entertainment. Here the industry will receive consumers' feedback concerning its innovations in a concentrated space that is absolutely unique.
The partner country as a starting point: More international business and new themes The business area of gamescom (Halls 4/5) promises the participating companies new momentum, high-quality contacts and successful business. Partner countries of previous years included Canada, the UK and Korea, and all of them demonstrably benefited from the momentum they acquired at gamescom. The partner country in 2013 will be France, which will be presenting itself in Hall 4.2 on the initiative of the Syndicat National du Jeu Video (SNJV). With 28 million gamers and a turnover of €2.8 million, the French games market is one of the largest in the world. The French exhibitors at their group stand will be at the forefront of a total of 15 group stands. These will include stands representing France, the UK, Finland, Iran, Korea, Mexico, the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Spain, Taiwan, the USA, Canada and China. All of them will present their countries and their companies to the approximately 24,500 trade visitors at the event. Another indication of the tremendous interest in this year's gamescom is the UK group stand, which is being organized by UKIE. The size of this stand has been doubled, because even more companies than in 2012 will be exhibiting there this year. From February to June of this year, the gamescom organizers went on their international roadshow in Europe, Asia and the Americas in order to inform media representatives and trade visitors about gamescom 2013. Here too, they experienced an increase of interest in the event. As a result, in August Cologne will be the central business hotspot of the European games industry. In the business area, industry representatives will place their orders and kick off their Christmas business. In Halls 4 and 5, new themes that unite the industry representatives and the trade visitors will be addressed. Under the title "gamescom tomorrow", the 2013 edition of the event will present offers and services related to the licensing business and the recruitment of specialists, among other areas. In cooperation with the Enterprise Europe Network, gamescom will also offer a European cooperation exchange that aims to support cooperative enterprises, technology transfer and strategic partnerships between small and midsized companies. The Enterprise Europe Network, which includes almost 600 member organizations in more than 50 countries throughout the EU and beyond, is the largest network of its kind in Europe. The member organizations include chambers of commerce and industry, technology centres, business promotion agencies and universities. The European cooperation exchange will be held in Hall 4.2 in collaboration with the city of Cologne at the stand of the Media Cluster NRW. High quality of stay is guaranteed
Thanks to the tried and tested ticketing process of gamescom, private and trade visitors from all over the world will be able to get their advance admission tickets to gamescom at home and print them out directly, simply and conveniently. The tickets will also be valid as travel tickets within the region served by the Rhein-Sieg (VRS) and Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) Travel Authorities. Visitors who have bought an advance admission ticket (with discounts up to 25%) will quickly and easily gain access at the exhibition centre to the sector's biggest global event and entertainment highlight. Hall 11 will once again be the exclusive entrance hall for visitors with advance admission tickets. To ensure that the expected 275,000 visitors will continue to enjoy an outstanding quality of stay in the trade fair halls, the organizers at Koelnmesse have further expanded their visitor management services. In the fully air-conditioned trade fair halls, the main passages have been widened and additional catering and lounge areas have been created so that visitors can fully enjoy the entertainment experience that is gamescom.
GDC Europe and the city festival round off the "games week" in Cologne In 2013 as in previous years, the two other pillars of gamescom in Cologne — the developers' conference GDC Europe ( www.gdc-europe.de) and the gamescom city festival ( www.gamescomfestival.de) — will appropriately round off the trade fair and event highlight for interactive entertainment. A high-quality supporting programme on the trade fair grounds will offer additional enjoyment. The gamescom congress on Thursday, 22nd August, in the Congress Centre North and the gamescom campus (Hall 10.1) will certainly be central information areas for the cultural, scientific, media education, and social aspects of gaming. Cosplay Village in Hall 10.1 will be a magnet for all fans of role games and disguises, and the feverishly awaited eSport tournaments of the European Sports League and Turtle Entertainment in Hall 8 will also be a big attraction for the colourful community of gaming fans. Other elements of the supporting programme that will not involve monitors and consoles will be offered at the event level of gamescom in Hall 10.2 and in the outdoor area next to Hall 8.
Sunday is Family Day
The last day of gamescom, a Sunday, will once again be the fair's official Family Day. Thanks to the lower volume of visitors that is expected then, gamescom will invite families with children to come on Sunday and get to know the world of interactive entertainment. The €20 family ticket represents a big discount (for a maximum of two adults/guardians and up to three children aged between 7 and 17 years). It will entitle families to enjoy the entire range of games, fun and entertainment as well as the entire supporting programme both indoors and outdoors. Exhibitors such as Nintendo will offer their innovations in the area of family entertainment for lots of fun and excitement, and flowriding, the gamescom beach and the event level in Hall 10 are guaranteed to provide fun for the whole family and all visitors both young and old.
