EXTERNAL DEVELOPMENT SUMMIT (XDS) 2013 ANNOUNCES PRELIMINARY PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS AND SPEAKER LINEUP

VANCOUVER, CANADA ( August 7, 2013 ) XDS (External Development Summit), the first professionals-only video games industry event with a primary focus on external development, announces the 2013 speaker lineup and preliminary program highlights. The event, which takes place September 3 – 5, 2013 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, targets industry professionals, service providers, and technology providers.

XDS offers a much-needed program that promotes cooperative advancement of external development practices for the games industry. The announcement of the preliminary program brings highlights such as Colin Penty’s presentation ‘Sustainable Integrated Outsourcing Development’. Penty, Technical Art Director at Black Tusk Studios (Microsoft), will address how his studio synchronized their team structure, training schedules, and pipeline development to create the most optimal outsourcing process possible.

Other presentations narrow in on practical must-have tools for industry success. Grayson Chalmers, Outsource Manager from Blizzard Entertainment, will cover production methods of building trust through clear goal setting, market research, cost analysis, detailed budgeting, tracking, and reporting. The presentation will even include templates that can be immediately applied to day-to-day business interactions.

Day two of the Summit will even include a premier presentation from XDS and ACM SIGGRAPH Vancouver.

Keeping the summit’s four core values in mind (education, collaboration, leadership, and quality), XDS ensures a curriculum that delivers critical learning and key strategies for continued industry success.

Explained by Hansoft’s CEO, Patric Palm, “There is a great opportunity to get more high quality assets and less waste work out of external development with better collaboration practices and less of the traditional silo-thinking.” Palm further expresses that “XDS will be a fantastic chance for all of us to share experiences of successes and struggles, and we are really looking forward to co-hosting this event.”

Summit attendees will be the first to participate in an internationally attended event focused purely on external development, while contributing and collaborating with other subject matter experts to mature and evolve the overall ecosystem of the games industry.
