G4’s “X-PLAY” ANNOUNCES WINNERS FOR THE NINTH ANNUAL “X-PLAY BEST OF 2011 AWARDS”

Tonight on G4’s “X-Play,” the most watched video game series on television, hosts Adam Sessler, Morgan Webb and Blair Herter handed out G4’s “X-Play Best of 2011 Awards.”  In a season chalk-full of shooters, sequels and sci-fi epics, Bethesda’s fantasy role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, was given the top nod of Game of the Year, joining the ranks of previous winners including Mass Effect 2, Uncharted 2, and Fable II.

“Winning an award like this is amazing,” said Todd Howard, Game Director for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim . “It has been a bit of a blur. When you finish a project of this size, for the whole team, we've been heads down pouring ourselves into this game for three years and then you're just kind of relieved and excited to be done.”

Valve Studio’s critically-acclaimed strategy game Portal 2 received the most awards in the field with four, including Best Puzzle Game and Best Writing.   Batman: Arkham City claimed three awards including Best Adventure Game, and in what can easily be regarded as the most competitive category, Epic Games’ Gears of War 3 was named Best Shooter.

"This is huge for us especially considering the competition that's out this year,” said Cliff Bleszinski, Design Director for Epic Games. “From Call of Duty to Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3, my mind i s completely blown.”

Other accolades awarded include Best Fighting Game for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Best Sports Game and Best Animation for NBA2K12, and Best Multiplayer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
