Gamelab Barcelona comes back with an exciting lineup of international speakers

BARCELONA (SPAIN) – May 20, 2013. - Gamelab Barcelona ( ), one of the leading videogames conferences in Europe, announced today that the next edition of the event will take place on June 26th-28th, 2013 at the Barcelona Film Library (“La Filmoteca”). Last year, Gamelab Conference welcomed over 1.500 professionals, 200 game companies and 200 journalists .

Gamelab Barcelona is a market-accelerator event for games and interactive entertainment companies and projects. Its main objective is helping out the growth of new business initiatives in the European games sector, with special attention to those ones in an early stage of development. Gamelab also serves as an effective hub for local companies looking to expand their business globally and for those international companies that want to enter the European and/or Latin American markets.

The speaker list for the 2013 edition of the event includes recognized international creators and visioneers like:

Michel Ancel, one of the top 25 game creators of all time, according to IGN’s list and  best known for creating the Rayman franchise, for which he was the lead designer on the first two games as well as the recent Rayman Origins.

Minh Le,  a Vietnamese-Canadian computer game developer who was ranked 14 in the same list for creating the popular Half-Life mod Counter-Strike with Jess Cliffe in 1999.

Jesse Schell, one of the top leadership “gamification” gurus that has produced an amazing array of innovative, family-friendly entertainment experiences including the Disney Fairies MMO, Pixie Hollow, the award-winning Toy Story Mania TV Game, and some of the most popular interactive theme park attractions in the world. 

Tommy Palm, Mobile Guru at, entrepreneur and game designer of more than 30 game titles including Bubble Witch Saga, Sprinkle, Championship Manager Online, World in War, Karlsson på Taket (mobile), Dirk Dagger, Kodo and the global hit Candy Crush Saga.

Vander Caballero, a leading member of the Canadian video game community, creative director and co-founder of Minority, an independent studio where he is exploring new directions in game concept and design. Their first game Papo & Yo shows clearly a very personal creative touch.

Gamelab Barcelona management has also announced that Mark Cerny, lead architect of the Playstation 4 will be the first American in being distinguished with the prestigious Industry Legend Award, previously given only to the British Peter Molyneux and the Japanese Hironobu Sakaguchi.

Cerny, a true veteran of the video game industry, is globally known both for the success of the titles to which he has created/contributed ( Marble Madness, Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, etc) and for the companies he has worked for (Sega, Sony and Universal Studios, among others). Just before receiving the Award, the American will give a one-of-a-kind talk to discuss his history in the games business leading up through his work with Sony Computer Entertainment, and then give a candid behind the scenes look at the creation of the PS4. Numerous details of console development – formerly known only to insiders – will be revealed to the public for the first time.
