The prize, presented by Professor Sugata Mitra of Newcastle University, is sponsored by Webanywhere Ltd and recognises an outstanding use of technology in the classroom to engage learners.
Games Britannia is the first week-long festival of its kind in secondary schools, bringing a fantastic collaboration of British videogame talent into the classroom, giving Sheffield and Rotherham students a unique insight into the skills, techniques and qualifications required for a successful career in the gaming industry.
Mark Hardisty, co-ordinator of the videogame event said:“I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of Brinsworth Comprehensive School and the Games Britannia team who have worked very hard to design and deliver this unique event. This recognition is very flattering and demonstrates the value of videogames in providing an innovative and inspiring learning experience for students. I hope we can provide an even bigger and better event in 2012”.
Games Britannia is running between 27 June and 1 July 2011.
