gamescom is without doubt one of the most challenging work weeks in the industry calendar but ten cycling superstars are about to make it even harder by biking home. After Cat Channon and Nathan Irvine’s heroics last year, ten more of videogames finest will endure a gruelling three day cycle ride in support of GamesAid.
Already having raised over £4,000, the 2012 player based peloton; James Beaven (Indigo Pearl), Mark Allen (Kalypso), Sarah Ditum (Freelance writer and one half of husband-and-wife Ditum duo), Nathan Ditum (PlayStation Network), David Jackson (Future Publishing), Nick Hayward (Steel Series), David Priestman (Future Publishing), Graeme Struthers (Get Games and GamesAid Trustee), Robert Pearson (Future) and Cat Channon, (NCsoft and GA Trustee) will set out at 5am on Saturday the 18 th August and make their way to Dieppe to catch the ferry to Newhaven before the final push to Brighton in just three days.
NCsoft and Guild Wars 2 developer, ArenaNet, have pledged to support the team and GamesAid, both financially and through their Community who will track the cyclists progress via twitter, facebook and the NCsoft events page . While PR gurus and GamesAid backers Indigo Pearl are providing a support vehicle to keep the team on track. The riders can be followed with the hash tag #GamesAid352.
Anyone who goes along to show their support in person will also get a limited edition in Guild Wars 2 in game item, donated by ArenaNet in a bid to raise even more awareness for the Wiggins Wannabes and their cause.
“gamescom is the biggest event in our calendar, so what better place to start the biggest challenge we’ll face of 2012 too,” commented Cat Channon, Director of Communications at NCsoft, Europe and GamesAid trustee. “The bike ride is hot on the heels of some of the busiest business days and longest industry evenings we experience but it’s a small challenge in comparison to the day-to-day struggles faced by many of the children who GamesAid supports each year. I’m proud that NCsoft, ArenaNet and the Guild Wars 2 fans are showing such support for this great cause.”
For those who’d also like to don a GamesAid jersey and draft with peddle powered troop, the team are making an open invitation to anyone who wants to join them and cycle from the Messe back to their own offices– wherever it might be in Europe.
So far the team has raised £4,533. To sponsor them, visit their just giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/teams/gamesaidcolognecyclechallenge
