San Jose, Calif. (January 19, 2010) - San Jose-based online game publisher, GamesCampus.com ( www.GamesCampus.com, run by OnNet USA), announced today that it has signed three of the top professional
golfers in the world - Y.E. Yang, Anthony Kim and Camilo Villegas-- to appear as characters in its golf simulation game, Shot-Online. GamesCampus has secured the rights to use these high-ranked PGA TOUR player's names and likenesses, including each player's sponsors. The players will be available as playable characters in the game next month.
Y.E. Yang, ranked 29th in the world, stunned the golf world last August when he out-dueled Tiger Woods to win the PGA Championship, becoming the first male Korean golfer to win one of golf's four majors in the process. He earned two victories in 2009, and was also the first golfer to overtake Woods in a major championship in which the world's number one golfer had the lead going into the final round.
At only 24, Anthony Kim is one of golf's brightest, and most popular, young stars. Kim turned professional in 2006 and finished second in his PGA tournament debut at the Valero Texas Open. In 2008, he enjoyed a breakout season, earning his first Tour victory at the Wachovia Championship, following it up with a win at the AT&T National two months later, and playing an integral role as the U.S. team brought
the Ryder Cup back home after three consecutive losses. With a fearless personality on the course, and a strong, well-rounded game, Anthony Kim promises to be a 'major' force in golf for many years.
Camilo Villegas of Colombia is another of golf's most popular young superstars, gaining 'rockstar' status around the world on the PGA and European Tours. Known for his movie star looks, a superhuman fitness level and a powerful, all-around game, Villegas won the final two FedExCup tournaments in 2008 to finish second in the standings and earn 7th place in the Official World Golf Rankings. His unorthodox putting routine that sees him crouch extended and low to the ground to read his putts has earned Villegas the nickname "Spiderman".
"Introducing professional players into the game is a totally new element for Shot-Online," said David Chang, EVP of Marketing and Business Development for GamesCampus. "Our ability to attract some of the best players in golf demonstrates how well Shot-Online is valued in the North American market."
Shot-Online will feature the real-life likenesses of each of the
players including each golfer's individual movements. The characters of Villegas, Kim and Yang will have much higher capabilities and growth speed than existing characters in the game and will also sport their sponsored real life gear such as TaylorMade, Cobra, CVS and more. Characters of the PGA players are scheduled to be introduced next month and they will be open for all players of any skill level!
"Y.E., Anthony and Camilo are thrilled to partner with Shot-Online and look forward to the game being an exciting online experience for golf fans," said Bart Kendall, Vice President of IMG. "All three players represent not only the best in golf today, but also the game's exciting future."
