gamescom 2011: Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge Cologne


Cologne, August 15, 2011 – The 2011/2012 season of the Intel Extreme Masters, the global league of the video game champions, will take off with its first Global Challenge at gamescom 2011 in Cologne (August 17 - 21) in the Energie3 ESL Arena (hall 9). The event will host the world's best gamers fighting for a share of 53,000 US Dollar and a slot in the World Championship competition, the grand finale of each season of the league. The tournament will feature competition in StarCraft 2 (21,000 US Dollar ) and League of Legends (32,000 US Dollar). The total prize money of the Intel Extreme Masters in the 2011/2012 season is 635,000 US Dollar.

Intel Extreme Masters is a series of competitions for eSports champions from over 35 countries organised by Turtle Entertainment GmbH in cooperation with Intel. Live events are held in some of the world's major cities like Kiev or New York. Throughout the entire season the best professional gamers compete for a share of 635,000 US Dollar and the title of the World Champion. Global Challenge Cologne wil be the first live event in this season of the league. After an online qualification the best gamers from all over the world will come to gamescom 2011 to compete against each other. Among the participants we will see such eSports celebrities like Jang 'MC' Min Chul in StarCraft 2 or team Fnatic MSI in League of Legends. The groups of the tournament are as follows:

All the playersheets of the participants are available at ESL TV, ESL’s web-TV service, will report live from the Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge Cologne at gamescom 2011. At all eSports fans can follow the action in the ESL Arena from home.
