For Immediate Release
Eugene, OR, September 16, 2008 -- GarageGames, the leading technology provider for independent game developers, has announced the release of Torque X 3D, available for purchase on October 1, 2008. This release provides new full-featured WYSIWYG authoring tools for creating 3D games with the Torque X engine in addition to numerous engine optimizations, bugfixes, and updates.
Torque X 3D also now includes XSI Mod Tool Pro, a professional 3D modeling and animation software from Softimage used to create and animate in-game 3D characters, environments and assets. With the XSI Mod Tool Pro, Torque X users have an end-to-end XNA game development platform.
Last updated in March adding support for 3D and for compatibility with the Microsoft XNA 2.0 framework, Torque X is a commercially proven engine technology for making games with XNA. The engine provides chunked LOD terrain with clip map texturing, DTS Mesh Support, XNA Model Support, Torque's custom material system, post processing, a 3D particle system, rigid body physics and collision, and built in components.
XSI Mod Tool Pro is available only with Torque X 3D and equips indie game developers with many of the same professional 3D modeling and animation tools found in XSI Essentials ($2995 USMSRP), used to make triple-A game titles. Unlike the free XSI Mod Tool available on the Softimage website for non-commercial game creation, XSI Mod Tool Pro has a commercial End User License Agreement (EULA), opening the door for indie game developers to make for-profit, commercial 3D games.
Torque X 3D licenses will be available to qualified Indies at just $250 per developer and includes a license of XSI Mod Tool Pro. Other licensing options are outlined on GarageGames' Torque X product page.
"We're really proud to be working with Softimage to provide a full suite of tools for developers to make XNA games," said Brett Seyler, GarageGames VP of Business Development. "It's exciting to be able to offer a complete solution for making games now that we've got the XSI Mod Tool Pro for content creation and Torque X 3D delivering powerful tools for assembling games."
"Torque X 3D combined with XSI Mod Tool Pro represents an unbelievable value proposition for independent game developers," says Leonard Teo, Product Marketing Manager for Softimage. "The Torque X 3D platform combined with XSI Mod Tool Pro will open the door for many indie game developers to create amazing Windows and Xbox 360 games commercially."
According to GarageGames, Torque X for 2D game development will continue to be available as a separate product, Torque X 2D. Torque X 2D includes drag and drop game creation tools as well as the most advanced 2D engine available today.
With Torque X, developers can deploy and test their game on retail Xbox 360 units through Microsoft Creator's Club, or even publish them to the XNA Community Games channel with no approval necessary from Microsoft.
