Grand Cru Adds Former Wooga Marketing Head to Launch its Cross-Platform Content Creation Game, The Supernauts

Helsinki and Los AngelesMay 22, 2012Grand Cru, an independent game studio based in Helsinki on the leading edge of social game development, added Thorbjorn Warin as marketing and business development director. His role is to assist with the creation of the company’s cross-platform, content-creating game, The Supernauts . Thorbjorn joins Grand Cru from Wooga, a leading social game publisher, where he served as the head of marketing.

During Thorbjorn’s time as head of marketing at Wooga the company increased in size ten-fold, becoming one of the top three providers for Facebook games, and closed a funding round for $25 million. As marketing director at Grand Cru, Thorbjorn will integrate with the executive team to oversee user acquisition, business development, localization, community management and customer care for The Supernauts. This addition to Grand Cru’s core staff of gaming executives comes shortly after the developer closed $2 million in seed funding.

“To join the Grand Cru team is to join one of the most exciting gaming start-ups in Europe, if not the world,” said Warin. “It took all of two minutes playing The Supernauts to recognize that Grand Cru’s first game has a winning formula. I’m eager to begin lending my expertise in marketing and business development to help the game and the company to reach its full potential.”

The Supernauts features a persistent virtual world with cartoon-inspired artwork and visual aesthetic, where players collaborate to make in-game secret hideouts, solve puzzles and even their own games. The Supernauts will be accessible from mobile devices and the web, with players being able to interact together cross-platform.

“Adding Thorbjörn to head up Grand Cru’s marketing and business development is the next critical step in launching The Supernauts,” said Markus Pasula, CEO, Grand Cru. “We already have a superior product and technology development team; Thorbjorn’s experience in the social and mobile games business is the next crucial step in helping turn The Supernauts into a success for our company and partners.”

Grand Cru was founded by six Finnish game developing veterans, who boast more than 70 years of industry experience between them. Grand Cru has robust experience in both mobile and multiplayer games, with previous credits that include Habbo Hotel, Tiki Towers and the Playman Sports Series. With The Supernauts and future Grand Cru titles, the company is focused on creating unique experiences that work on any device or platform, including tablets, smart phones, Facebook and the Web.

Grand Cru investors include Guillaume Lautour from IDinvest Partners, Playdom co-founder Rick Thompson, Betclic founder Nicolas Béraud, former Google EMEA head of mergers and acquisitions Anil Hansjee and former Digital Chocolate director Henric Suuronen. The Supernauts will be available later in 2012. For more information, please visit the Grand Cru and The Supernauts websites.
