14/09/2011 – Green Man Gaming (GMG) the innovative digital distribution service for PC games, is launching a new mobile payment option, allowing gamers to pay for new titles on their mobile phone bill.
With demand growing rapidly, industry experts predict the global mobile payment market will be worth more than £400 billion by 2015, over three times the current number, with growth driven by consumers without bank accounts or credit cards. In the PC download retail space, mobile payments are already driving significant revenue across mainland Europe.
Utilising GlobalCharge’s mobile payment solution, the new Green Man Gaming service is initially available to anyone with a UK mobile phone, PC gamers to top up their store wallet in a couple of clicks, directly from their mobile bill or pay as you go credit. The service can be used by GMG customers across all major networks.
Mobile payments will also be rolled out as Green Man Gaming launches its new local stores across Europe in partnership with regional experts in the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece and Turkey before the end of 2011. Further stores will be announced in coming months.
GMG first launched in the UK in 2010 and is the world’s only online retailer that gives consumers the chance to trade-in their digitally downloaded PC games to get money-off new purchases. A strong supporter of the games industry and publishers, GMG remains the sole retailer to pay a royalty on pre-owned sales. The store now sells over 700 titles from 75 publishing partners in 146 countries around the world, and continues to strengthen its presence and offering to gamers by developing locally focused stores.
Paul Sulyok, Managing Director, Green Man Gaming, said:
“As we continue to expand the business across Europe with regional stores, we’ll be offering consumers a wide range of options tailored specifically to their market, with mobile payments central to our payment options. Since we first launched mobile payment has been one of the most popular requests from the community, so we’re looking forward to welcoming a whole new audience of PC gamers to the innovative Green Man Gaming offering.”
Simon Coates, Commercial Director of GlobalCharge added:
“We are delighted to be working with the team at Green Man Gaming. Their innovative and unique approach has revolutionised the online retail market for PC games. As part of their expansion plan, we hope our mobile payment solutions will allow them to reach even more consumers across Europe.”
