February 4, 2012 – Gridiron Heroes—the upcoming retro-flavored social football sim for the Facebook platform—ran a simulation of this Sunday's Super Bowl using its complex and comprehensive algorithms to determine exactly what will go down in the big game.
"Victor Cruz was a monster in our simulation," said David Murray, Lead Developer for Pixel Rampage. "Six catches, 159 yards, and two touchdowns. The Giants also had six sacks, ruining the Patriots' chances of any formidable offense. I do not think it is realistic to expect Brady to only throw for 157 yards, though. Silly Gridiron Heroes."
The final score? Giants 24, Pats 7. Watch highlights from the game here: http://youtu.be/fgMCcwgjBzs
Gridiron Heroes is a brand-new American football simulator for Facebook that's been in development for a few years. We're taking the classic simplicity of Tecmo Bowl gameplay and making it a social experience. Players take control of their team from its inception, naming it and assigning team colors and logos, before being placed in a league with all their Facebook buddies. There, it's up to the player to manage every aspect of their team's performance, from training players and developing strategy and tactics, to managing the stadium itself and even setting hot dog prices.
But it's not just a Tecmo Bowl remake with a social bent and added sim elements—we're also enhancing the classic formula, with all-new defensive formations, pre-snap audibles, and even the wildcat formation. Right now, you can only watch matches being simulated in nostalgic 8-bit, though as the company grows, we hope to advance Gridiron Heroes into a full-blown live multiplayer experience.
Fans are encouraged to contribute to Gridiron Heroes' Kickstarter page, which will help fund the development of Gridiron Heroes' multiplayer component. For $25, fans can even name a character in the game!
