What is Energy Hook?

---------------------------------

The extreme sport of the future ... today! Imagine a future in which the 'energy hook' - a tractor-beam device normally used in construction - is re-purposed by young athletes out for a thrill. Playing 'Energy Hook' becomes the extreme sport of the future - the players use their home-made energy hook gauntlets to swing through obstacle courses, race to win each other's tech and compete for cred.

You are one of those daredevil athletes. The underground Energy Hook 'league' creates augmented reality obstacle courses for you and your competitors among the rooftops of the cities of the future, but you’ll also be able to freely explore the levels like sandboxes, looking for hidden easter eggs, doing tricks, and being mellow. You’ll swing from dizzying heights and do parkour-like moves off the walls and roofs. You’ll fall great distances and catch yourself at the last moment ... or not.

Gameplay-wise, think of the swinging and parkour gameplay from games like Spider-Man 2 and Bionic Commando mashed up with the overarching structure of games like SSX and Tony Hawk.

What's So Great About Swinging Around Like Tarzan In A Steel Jungle?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wait, do you really have to ask?

-----------------------------------------------------

Will You Be Able To Run On Walls?

-----------------------------------------------------

Yes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why Are They The Ones Who Should Make This?

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once upon a time they worked on a console game called Spider-Man 2, which, along with being a tie-in to a massively successful movie, also tried to answer the question, "What might it really feel like to swing around skyscrapers like a pendulum on crack?"

They did a pretty good job answering that question - so good, in fact, that the curmudgeonly reviewer Yahtzee Croshaw of Zero Punctuation, known for hating just about everything, actually said nice things about it. He called it "Fast, Flowing, Fun, and F ... Intuitive" ... and he put Spider-Man 2 in his top 5 games of all time.

It was Jamie Fristrom who invented that swinging system - and Jamie's going to be spearheading Energy Hook. (And he's writing this press release in the third person, so, if nothing else, he's confident.)
