- Within 48 hrs ‘Hungry Shark Pt 3’ reached Number 3 in the US iPhone Free Games Chart (2 nd Aug 2011) after release of free version.
Following the release of the ‘Hungry Shark’ iOS games for free during ‘Shark Week’ daily downloads have increased to an average of 200,000 bringing the total downloads for the series to 18.5m since release in April 2010.
“The success of the Freemium model leads us to believe that we will be moving away from paid apps completely,” said Ian Harper, Managing Director of FGOL. “By switching business model on Part 3 during Shark Week, we've traded 1000 downloads a day at $1 for 250,000 Daily Active Users (DAU) that we can monetise through in-app purchases of optional upgrades.”
He continued, “Our revenue is also now correlated with DAU not daily downloads, which is great as DAU falls off much slower after a sales spike. We've also been able to give the whole game away for free and reach an audience x100 larger, who we can also promote other products to.”
‘Hungry Shark’ in-app purchases include “Mega Shark”, “Blood Bath” and “Treasure Map” costing from $2 - $5.
The studio, which released it's first title in early 2010 has achieved significant success with Paid Apps of its games across iOS and Android and recently launched the Future Games Network, offering it’s sales and marketing expertise to other independent developers. The first title, Say What?! launched on Future Games Network on iOS on 10 th August.
