Following a steady stream of high-quality, front cover treatments, including a landmark Japanese-style foil Pokémon cover to celebrate Pokémon Black&White, games™ further cements its standing as one of the most creative and innovative magazines on the market with another industry first, a cover that can only be fully appreciated in complete darkness. Partnering with 2K Games, the games™ team has created a glow- in-the-dark cover that showcases Digital Extremes’ upcoming title in an ideal fashion.
Although in the daylight the cover stands up to the high-quality design games™ is known for, only in the darkness can it really be appreciated. Key elements glow out as The Darkness takes over, and what seems like innocent text turns out to be a sinister message.
To accompany this celebratory cover, 2K granted games™ full access to the Digital Extremes studio and supplied the first details, art, and interview access exclusively, which all combine to make up a mammoth 8- page feature that’s an essential read for any Darkness fan or anyone who enjoys quality FPSs.
“It was great working with Imagine to create the perfect launch cover for the Darkness 2,” commented Ben Lawrence, UK PR manager at 2K Games.“The perfect balance of creativeness, innovation and editorial excellence has been used to deliver the correct message and get the campaign off to a flying start. I couldn’t be happier with the result.
It was everything we could have hoped for, and the use of glow-in-the- dark to bring out the secret message was inspired.”
“This was one of my favourite treatments I’ve worked on,” said Rick Porter, Editor in Chief of games™.“ The strong brand and treatment allowed us to have a bit of fun and really be creative with the messages that glow from the cover. These innovative treatments not only help the magazine in establishing itself as one of the best on the market, but are the perfect way for a publisher to shout about their upcoming release in a way no other medium can offer.”
