FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Mill Valley, CA, September 10, 2007– Iron Realms Entertainment celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the release of its ground-breaking first MUD– Achaea, Dreams of Divine Lands– this weekend in a flurry of events across all of the Iron Realms.
“We released Achaea the same month that Ultima Online was released,” said Matt Mihaly, Achaea’s original design lead and the CEO of Iron Realms.“Everybody told me it was crazy to dive into MUDs commercially when it was clear that they were not the future of the market. I’m incredibly glad we were too stubborn to listen.”
Minae Lee, Achaea’s producer for the last couple of years said,“It’s been quite a ride but the best is yet to come. With the upcoming release of ships and a massive expansion of the world I think we’re moving to the next stage in Achaea’s evolution as one of the deepest and most developed virtual worlds in existence.”
Achaea, Dreams of Divine Lands was the first MUD released by Iron Realms Entertainment, on September 9, 1997. It is the most successful MUD released in the past decade and pioneered the free-to-play, pay-for-virtual-goods business model. Like all the Iron Realms MUDs, it is also known for its almost impossibly deep PvP combat and its elaborate in-game political systems.
