Kevin Afflack Music, Inc, a North Texas based music production studio, announced today that they are nominated for a prestigious G.A.N.G. Award in the Best Use Of Licensed Music category for their work creating the parody songs in the dance mode of Microsoft Games “Kinect Star Wars” video game released in 2012. The G.A.N.G. Awards are the video game industry’s equivalent to the Grammy Awards where over 2,500 members of the gaming audio community, representing over 30 countries, nominate and vote on the final winners.
“This year’s G.A.N.G. award nominees continue to raise the bar, pushing creative boundaries, innovating in technology and delivering exceptional execution and production across all aspects of game audio,” said G.A.N.G. President Brian Schmidt . “With a record number of nominations this year, the G.A.N.G. awards provide an opportunity to put on display and recognize the incredible talent, skill and craft in our industry both to industry peers and the public at large. G.A.N.G. is proud to highlight these final nominees and their works as the best of our industry.”
KA-Music’s relationship with Jesse Harlin of LucasArts Entertainment Company, Chris Esaki of Microsoft Games and Kyle Richards of Terminal Reality, Inc. began when they were hired to produce and arrange parody versions of popular Top 40 songs with Star Wars themed lyrics penned by Harlin and Esaki.
The nine songs completely re-created by KA-Music used in the Galactic Dance Off mode contain such titles as “Hologram Girl” (remake of Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl), “Princess In A Battle” (remake of Christina Aguilera’s “Genie in a Bottle”) and the remake of Village People’s classic hit “Y.M.C.A” as “Empire Today” which features the heavy breathing Darth Vader as special guest vocalist singing “ It’s great to be in the Empire Today!”
KA-Music employed over forty North Texas musicians and vocalists on the project, which covers a wide variety of styles and genres. The songs were mixed by recording industry veteran engineer Kenny Gioia, (Ingrid Michaelson, Hall & Oates).
The winners will be announced at the 11th Annual G.A.N.G. Awards ceremony being held on Thursday, March 28th, 2013 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA during the Game Developers Conference. The show will be recorded and edited for viewing via streaming on the Video Games Live Twitch.TV channel ( http://www.twitch.tv/videogameslive).
