CARLSBAD, Calif. - May 10th 2013 - Chris Roberts, founder of Cloud Imperium Games, visited Razer´s global headquarters in Carlsbad last month. Roberts is a celebrity at the deepest levels of the gaming industry, most notably for his work with the groundbreaking, popular space combat simulation series Wing Commander, the first game to integrate live-action footage into play. Most recently, he made headline news by eclipsing the record for revenues raised on Kickstarter, garnering more than US$8 million in support of his upcoming AAA title´s development. Roberts also had a remarkable stint in Hollywood as a motion picture producer, credited with such films as Lucky Number Slevin (2006), Lord of War (2005), The Big White (2005) and The Punisher(2004).
Ever the gaming fanatic and technorati, Roberts and business partner/actor/model Sandi Gardiner toured the Razer facilities and talked about some of their favorite Razer products, including the Edge tablet, Blade laptop, Naga MMO mouse, Orbweaver mechanical keypad, Sabertooth Xbox 360 controller and Hydra PC motion-sensing controller. Videos of the interviews with Sandi and Chris anaylsing the Razer Edge, can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMFMm6mVJuc and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wszyiKc-E5o
Roberts is currently developing his next space combat simulation game, Star Citizen, and spoke with Razer´s Heath Hatcher, in passing, about the game´s potential merits when paired with the Edge.
“It´s pretty awesome how (well) Crysis 3 is running on the Razer Edge. It´s up there with some desktop stuff, which is pretty impressive,” Roberts said. “You´ll definitely be able to play Star Citizen on (the Edge). It looks fantastic.”
The visit wasn´t just about the merits of Razer´s high-end gaming products, however. Travis Wannlund of Razer gave Sandi the scoop about Razer´s voracious cult-like community (2.3 million Facebook fans, 165k Twitter followers), and shared his excitement for Cloud Imperium Games´ upcoming title.
“We have pooled together (at Razer) some of the most hardcore, passionate gamers out there,” Wannlund said. “We´ve all been waiting for a game like this.”
