‘Blast Monkeys’ mobile game for iPhone and Android tops 1 million downloads

San Francisco, California | May 25th, 2011 | Bay Area mobile game studio Yobonja's physics-based puzzle game, Blast Monkeys, received its one millionth download across iOS and Android yesterday.

Blast Monkeys passed the 1 million milestone exactly four months after the first version of the game was released only on iOS. Two weeks after the Blast Monkeys came out on iOS, a beta version of the game for Android was released. The game then gradually built up a community of players, and received many positive reviews before eventually achieving its millionth download.

Blast Monkeys is very engaging and just plain fun,” says Carlos Icaza, co-founder of  Ansca Mobile, makers of the Corona SDK used by Yobonja to create Blast Monkeys.“The Yobonja team did an excellent job with designing an easy and addictive game that had widespread appeal– honestly, I wasn’t too surprised when they told me it passed 1 million downloads.”

In Blast Monkeys, players shoot a monkey named Moki out a cannon and through a series of rotating platforms, moving pegs, and other fun obstacles in order to get to the end goal– a bushel of bananas. Collecting the bananas is a matter of perfect timing and marksman-like aim. The game currently has three playable worlds, each with 30 levels.

At one point on the Apple App Store, Blast Monkeys hit the #1 spot in the“Kids” or“Puzzle” categories in six countries, reached the top 5 overall games in four countries, and the top 5 overall app charts in two countries. In Google’s official Android Marketplace, Blast Monkeys was in the Top 25 Overall Apps and featured on the front page of the store as a“Trending” app. The game has been sitting in the #4 spot in“Action and Arcade” and has been within the Top 10 Games for three weeks straight.

Yobonja is hard at work on an update for the game, as well as a version for NOOK Color. The new update will feature a fourth world, with 30 new levels and 2 brand new game elements.
