MLG.tv enjoys 253% viewer jump

eSports organisation Major League Gaming has reported strong growth for its online MLG.tv platform.

Viewers on its channel MLG.tv have jumped 253 per cent year-on-year during the first quarter of 2015. Growth is averaging about 70 per cent per quarter, although the Q1 numbers beat both of the previous quarters combined.

No exact viewer numbers were shared, although the company now claims to have a reach of 27m viewers per month. 50 per cent of these access content via mobile or platforms such as Xbox Live and Chromecast.

Ad revenue in the period soared 482 per cent year-on-year, too, suggesting that MLG’s decision to branch away from partners like Twitch and launch its own MLG.tv platform 16 months ago was the correct one. In total it has over 2,600 brand partners.

We launched with a premium, highly-curated programming strategy and the result is a fast growing, engaged millennial audience of millions,” MLG president and co-founder Mike Sepso said.

We invested heavily in our ad solution and focused on mobile and OTTV distribution and the results have been amazing for both our advertisers and our broadcast partners.”
