LONDONTuesday 20 th March, 2012 – Today, both Microsoft Ltd and Right To Play, a leading international  children’s sport and play charity, are excited to announce a 2012 sponsorship programme which will see Microsoft provide much-needed funds and product for Right To Play activities  based here in the UK as well as abroad. The partnership consists of a cash donation to the charity along with donated Microsoft hardware and software products.

Jonathan Grimes, Head of Microsoft’s Retail Sales and Marketing Division (UK), said: “We’re hugely excited by the Right To Play partnership. Both organisations believe that active play through sport and technology can achieve a positive, inclusive and sustainable future for children. Microsoft is also deeply committed to improving lives and addressing difficult societal issues through technology, so we look forward to assisting Right To Play with their incredibly worthwhile work over coming months.”

In addition to cash, hardware and software collectively valued at over US$1 million,  as part of the 2012 sponsorship package, Microsoft Ltd staff will be invited take part in various fundraising initiatives for the charity, along with integrated marketing activities across the Xbox brand, including:

·         Incorporating Right To Play into Xbox’s forthcoming pan-European summer sports campaign on Xbox LIVE

·         Undertaking ‘Game with Fame’’ with Right To Play Athlete Ambassadors for fundraising

·         In a cause marketing first for Microsoft, Right To Play branding will feature in Kinect Sports: Season Two Basketball DLC (due for release on April 2 nd)

·         Providing consoles and Xbox-based lessons for Right To Play’s ‘Play Day’ events in underprivileged UK areas.

Geographically, the Microsoft Ltd sponsorship package will support Right To Play’s programmes around the world. With Right To Play operating in more than 20 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and South America as well as having fundraising offices in the UK, Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada and the United States, the following communities in these regions will benefit:

·         Africa - Benin, Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda

·         Asia - China, Pakistan, Thailand

·         Middle East - Jordan, Lebanon, Palestinian Territories (West Bank & Gaza)

·         Latin America – Peru

·         Pilot Programmes - Canada (First Nation program in Northern Ontario); Norway (Children of Asylum Seekers) and USA (New York pre-school program in Harlem, NYC from September 2012)
