Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch - a Japanese-Welsh Fusion

Side is delighted to announce it carried out full audio localisation for Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Partnering with developer Level 5 and translation specialists specialists Shloc, Side were commissioned to cast, direct and produce the audio performances on the English version of the game.

The game is a partnership between Level 5 and famed animation house Studio Ghibli, and carries Ghibli’s distinct art style.  Side had to ensure the characters’ voices fitted this style and matched the environments and the world.

Bringing British colour to the game, the cast includes a full range of accents and styles, including a ten year old actor in the starring role of Oliver and the brilliant Welsh tones of Steffan Rhodri  ( Gavin & Stacey) as his sidekick Drippy.

Side Production Manager Laetitia Amoros said that “from the start, Ni no Kuni had some of the most beautiful graphics I’ve seen and I wanted to make sure the voices not only fitted but enhanced Ghibli’s gorgeous world. The casting was both a fun and challenging process and we’re really proud of the outcome and hope that the players engage with the performances as much as we do.”
