For immediate release: Wednesday 10 July
Computer games companies based anywhere in the UK have one week to apply for up to £25,000 in the latest round of the University of Abertay Dundee’s Prototype Fund.
The Prototype Fund has supported almost 70 companies based around Britain, as far afield as Brighton, Manchester, Glasgow and Dundee.
The investment round closes on 17th July – applications are open at http://prototypefund.abertay.ac.uk/.
This latest round of support is calling for applications from existing companies that have already completed and released games, but may be looking to develop a new intellectual property and need investment to reduce the business risk.
Paul Durrant, Director of Business Development at Abertay University, said: “Raising the funds to develop your own game can be very difficult – through the Abertay University Prototype Fund we take away a lot of the risk for young companies looking to become successful and sustainable.
“We’re looking for projects from existing companies who are looking to test a new idea, maybe make the move from building games for other companies to creating something which is 100% theirs.
“Britain’s games industry has an incredible wealth of creativity and talent, and we want to hear from promising young companies who could benefit from up to £25,000 for a new project.”
The Prototype Fund project is also nominated in the Business Development category of tonight’s Develop Awards in Brighton.
As well as improving access to funding in an environment where bank loans can be very difficult for young companies to secure, funded companies have the option of studio space, high-end computers and industry-standard software in Abertay University.
The Abertay University Prototype Fund is supported by investment from the university, the European Regional Development Fund administered by the Scottish Government, and UK Government funding administered by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.
