Online Retailer Shares Pre-Owned Game Revenue with Publishers & Developers Hints at Retail Street Presence

Orange County, CA (PR) – June 4, 2012 Recently launched online video game retailer has just announced their Retail Pre-Owned Rebate Program will now also be applied to video game developers.  In a statement by founder Mike Kennedy, the decision has been made to share 10% of every pre-owned game sale with both the video game publishers and developers.

According to Kennedy, used games sales generated from EKG are projected to be quite significant by the end of 2012 and the company wants these pre-owned game sales to benefit both the publishers and developers.   When asked if it will always be a 50/50 split, 5% going to each of them, Kennedy replied, “There are some gray areas concerning game development and publishing and all is not cut and dry.  The bottom line is 10% will be shared in some way between the publishers and developers.”

In addition, EKGaming has hinted they are now seeking a large street retailer to partner with in order to establish a street presence without having their own brick and mortar locations.  Small point of purchase displays would be filled with the latest releases and most popular games for each console and placed on the retailer’s floor.  Gamers would still be required to mail their trades into EKGaming’s processing center but would then have the option of either using their credit(s) online or redeeming their credits at the partnering retailer and picking up their games in-store.  Kennedy explains they have been in contact with a few large retailers that have multiple retail locations in all fifty states and currently have no video game presence.

He adds, “The additional traffic EKG kiosks could bring into the partnering retailer’s stores would be quite significant.  It is all about giving gamers the options they deserve and streamlining the process of trading in their games and getting new ones.  Having both an online and street presence is important for taking on the other brick and mortar competitors.”
