Outplay Launches Debut Titles: Word Trick and Booty Quest on Facebook

DUNDEE, Scotland - Dec. 15, 2011 - Outplay Entertainment Ltd, the newly formed social and mobile game developer continues its rapid growth with the release of its first two games, Word Trick and Booty Quest, on Facebook. Additionally, two board members have joined Outplay Entertainment: Karen Thomson has been appointed Non-Executive Chair and Randy Breen as Non-Executive Director.

Outplay Entertainment was created by brothers Douglas and Richard Hare, who previously founded The Collective, the studio behind many AAA titles such as Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, Men in Black and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Fallen. Opening its first studio in April 2011, Outplay Entertainment now employs more than 30 full-time staff members and is currently in development on a number of titles for various platforms including Facebook, iOS, Android, Google+ and more.

Founded upon three pillars for successful social and mobile game development, Outplay Entertainment is focused on delivering the following:

  • Social Games by Design - From the initial concept stages through launch, Outplay will weave social features into every game design. These social activities will always be entertaining and will enrich the player's overall experience.
  • Games Playable Anywhere - Outplay games are designed to allow players to continue their experience wherever they may be, whether on a mobile device or at a desktop. The desktop and mobile experiences may be identical or complementary to better leverage the qualities of each respective platform.

To assist with their ambitious publishing plans, Outplay has appointed Karen Thomson as Non-Executive Chair to serve in an advisory capacity, having built up a wealth of experience in previous roles such as President of AOL Europe, Online Business Unit Director for Vodafone and most recently as Non-Executive Director for UBM.

Randy Breen has also joined the Outplay board. Breen brings more than two decades of game production experience, including 14 years at Electronic Arts (EA) where he worked in roles such as Executive Producer and Creative Director, overseeing PC and console games across genres including creation and management of the hit franchise "Road Rash," as well as five years at LucasArts where he worked as Vice President of Product Development. Most recently, Breen served as CEO for Social Game Network (SGN), one of the largest developers of social and mobile games.

Outplay Entertainment's debut titles are available on Facebook: Booty Quest and Word Trick. Word Trick is a turbocharged crossword game with a twist -- players can combine green Trick Tiles to double, triple or quadruple their scores. Booty Quest is the fastest Match-3 game available on Facebook, giving players 90 pulse-pounding seconds to race to the top of the leaderboards.

Previously, Douglas and Richard founded their first independent development studio, The Collective, located in Southern California (Newport Beach) back in 1997 and successfully delivered a number of leading console and PC games. In 2005, The Collective merged with Backbone Entertainment to form Foundation 9 Entertainment, which still remains one of the largest independent videogame developers in the West.
