Pickers Game Launches for PC

DALLAS (December 15, 2011) – Pickers, a new casual strategy game for the PC, releases today from MumboJumbo, leading developer and publisher of casual games. The title combines elements from different casual game genres to create a strategy game that challenges the player to become the best Picker in just 30 days. The PC game launches on major portals today, and the iPad version will be available in the coming month.

“This is such a fun game—and it’s not just your run-of-the-mill hidden object title. There’s a lot of strategy involved in the game play, and we think this will really resonate with folks that are into the picking, antiquing, collectible craze that is sweeping pop culture right now,” said Mark Cottam, CEO of MumboJumbo. “There are 12 different locations to visit, wacky characters to haggle with, and a hot category on each day—the player goes around the country collecting items in their van and tries to turn a profit each day on the items they select. The goal is to get to the #1 slot by the end of 30 days as a Picker.”

Players own a shop called Rusted Gold, which needs items to sell. The player must collect items, purchase them from the place in which they are picked (an abandoned storage unit, an old rusted bus in a field, a dilapidated house, etc.), and either restore the item, combine it with another item to increase its value, appraise the item, sell it in the store, or auction it. The goal is to pick hot items to earn bonuses and choose items that are valuable to make more money. The more money a player earns, the higher his or her rank will be and the more valuable items he or she can purchase.

“We wanted to create a fun experience that would take the best aspects of free-roaming adventure and combine them with elements of hidden object game play, but give the player a more defined over-arching goal that would require some strategy,” said John Newcomer, lead game designer for MumboJumbo. “The American fascination with picking and discovering a treasure in a heap of trash is everywhere right now, and it was ripe fodder for a fun game. Once we combined that idea with a cast of eclectic characters and different ways for the player to make money, we knew we were on to something.”

Pickers hits most of the major online gaming portals this week for digital download, and the iPad version will be available from the Apple iTunes store in the coming month. The PC version can also be found at retailers nationwide as it hits shelves over the next couple of weeks.
