Playcast Media Brings Cloud Gaming To 2012 International Broadcaster Convention

IBC 2012 - September 6, 2012 – On the eve of the International Broadcaster Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam, Playcast Media, one of the world’s leading cloud gaming service providers, has announced an agreement with NVIDIA to run its streaming service on the NVIDIA® GeForce® GRID cloud gaming platform, and that the first implementation will be done for Bouygues Telecom Bbox games service in France.

Playcast’s patented virtualization technology enables the most cost-effective cloud gaming service in the industry. Playcast will be showcasing the new collaboration and technology in its booth at IBC (Hall 2, Stand 2.A17), and discussing it at the Cloud Gaming Summit in San Francisco this September 11-12.

The service with French ”triple-play” service provider Bouygues Telecom will change the way AAA PC video games are played in France. Utilizing Playcast’s streaming technology running on NVIDIA’s GeForce GRID, the service will allow Bouygues Telecom’s 1.3 million subscribers to access and play next-gen video games from the world’s major game publishers through Bouygues Telecom devices running Playcast’s on-demand cloud gaming service.

“Recently, cloud gaming services have come under media scrutiny with acquisitions and bankruptcies. We, however, continue to grow globally as operators see the value of adding games to pay-TV offerings,” said Guy De Beer, Playcast Media chief executive officer. “The rapid growth of Bouygues Telecom’s games service is a testament to that growing demand, and we’re excited to talk about real usage and data at this year’s IBC.”

Playcast Media is the first AAA gaming-on-demand technology for cable and IPTV services in the world. The proven Playcast system uses a proprietary new technology to process off-the-shelf PC games and distribute their audio and visual output as a regular video stream to any ordinary cable set-top, on-demand box.

NVIDIA GeForce GRID allows gaming-as-a-service providers to stream the latest, most sophisticated games to virtually any connected device – including TVs, smartphones and tablets running iOS and Android – without the lag that hampers current offerings. With the GeForce GRID platform, providers can deliver the most advanced visuals with lower latency, while incurring lower operating costs, particularly related to energy usage.

“NVIDIA GeForce GRID and Tegra 3 processors represent a massive disruption in how people can experience games on any device, anywhere and anytime they choose," said Phil Eisler, general manager of Cloud Gaming and 3D Vision at NVIDIA. “GeForce GRID technology enables the instant delivery of the highest quality visuals to Playcast customers like Bouygues Telecom.”

At the IBC, Hall 2, Stand 2.A17, Playcast will have hands-on demonstrations showcasing the power of cloud gaming on TVs, tablets and smart phones. Playcast will also be speaking at the upcoming Cloud Gaming Summit alongside NVIDIA on a panel entitled “How are Networks Evolving to Make Cloud Gaming Exponentially More Accessible?” To set an appointment at IBC or to speak with Playcast, please contact pr@playcast-media.com.
