(N.B. The monthly games chart is based on titles released and reviewed in the last month. The apps chart is based on titles reviewed over the last three months. Hence, this is not a cumulative chart and earlier released titles may have higher scores.)
It might be called Limbo, but Playdead's atmospheric platform-puzzler is in gaming heaven after finishing atop the July iPad Qi game chart. Still, the mood remains resolutely downbeat in this dark, melancholic masterpiece. Just below Limbo, we have a double dose of digital kleptomania. In Star Thief, at #3, you hoover up loose stars as quickly as they appear. In Tiny Thief, at #4, however, you pinch, well, anything that's not nailed down. It's a charming point-and-click adventure from the Rovio Stars stable. Let's end this section as we began, though, with an arty adventure game. In Hero of Many, you guide a bunch of tadpoles to safety in a Limbo-like silhouette world. Swell.
Topping the July iPad Qi app chart, meanwhile, is Vittle, an intuitive app in which your photos, handwriting, and voice are combined to form quick and simple videos for sharing. It's actually a really handy communication tool, like a virtual whiteboard. At #2, Djay 2 is the second iteration of the popular iOS DJ software. Once again, you can perform live or record mixes on the go, or just automix your tracks to keep things swinging smoothly. Epoch, at #4, is a beautiful way to browse video content themed around your mood. Finally, PGA Tour Caddie provides GPS access to half a million greens worldwide, offers 3D fly-overs, and provides help with tracking, measuring up, and recording each shot you take.
We'll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which iPad games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the iPad Quality Index now.
