(N.B. The monthly games chart is based on titles released and reviewed in the last month. The apps chart is based on titles reviewed over the last three months. Hence, this is not a cumulative chart and earlier released titles may have higher scores.)
Evoking the look, sounds, and sheer hyperactive energy of your typical Saturday morning kids cartoon, Seal Force has proven a big hit with reviewers in December, propelling it to the summit of our Qi leaderboard. While I’d give it a 10/10 for its theme tune alone, other critics have chosen to eulogise its depth of gameplay and vivid cast of characters. Each to their own, eh. Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto 3 just narrowly misses out on the top spot this month, with the open-world crime classic receiving glowing praise from across the iPhone app review world. But, Rockstar’s port isn’t the only retro remake to occupy a podium position this time around, as Sega’s famous Blue Blur speeds into third place. An updated version of the 1993 Mega-CD game, Sonic CD has you battling repeat offender and rotund genius Dr Robotnik, and introduces us to series villain Metal Sonic.
With Doctor Who unlikely to return to our screens before the tail end of 2012, fans of the Time Lord can seek a breadcrumb of solace in our most critically acclaimed application of December: Doctor Who News. Packed with news, videos, tour dates, pictures, biographies, and interviews, this unofficial app should help undernourished Doctor Who fans survive these long periods without their favourite hero. Elsewhere on the chart, we have Apple's own Apple Store (still following?) application in at #9. This handy tool allows you to browse the Cupertino company’s range of products on your device; reserve items for in-store collection or have them shipped to your doorstep; and book some quality time with the Geniuses.
We'll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the Quality Index now.
Know of a great reviews site that should be included?
