(N.B. The monthly games chart is based on titles released and reviewed in the last month. The apps chart is based on titles reviewed over the last three months. Hence, this is not a cumulative chart and earlier released titles may have higher scores.)
Ski Safari really nailed its run to top the Android Qi game leaderboard in July 2012. In Defiant Development’s casual treat, you make your way down an endless mountain, attempting to outrun an avalanche. Penguins, eagles, and even yetis must be utilised along the way. Battling away in second place this month, meanwhile, is Square Enix’s epic RPG Final Fantasy III. This 3D remake features tens of hours of timeless turn-based battling and world map wandering. Further down in fourth, there’s more strategic battling - only this time of the space-bound variety. Strikefleet Omega puts you in charge of humanity’s last-surviving star fleet, which you must upgrade and send into battle against the alien hordes.
If you’d rather just explore and micromanage your Android phone, you’ve probably already tried Solid Explorer Beta2 - a sharp new file manager that topped the Android Qi app chart for July. It’s not only powerful, but it's also lovely to look at (a rarity for such apps). Down in fourth place, the GuidePal series of city guide apps will point out all the sights and sounds worth experiencing in more than 60 of the world’s top cities. The information has been provided by locals and curated by travel journalists, so you know you’ll be getting the inside line on all the best restaurants, shops, and gigs this summer holiday season.
We'll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the Android Quality Index now.
