(N.B. The monthly games chart is based on titles released and reviewed in the last month. The apps chart is based on titles reviewed over the last three months. Hence, this is not a cumulative chart and earlier released titles may have higher scores.)
Punch Quest came out swinging this month to top the iPhone Qi league table for October 2012. RocketCat Games's brutal take on the endless-runner genre really pummelled the critics into submission. Closely tailing Punch Quest is EA's Need For Speed: Most Wanted, which drives the iPhone racing genre to a whole new level. Lurking ominously in third place, meanwhile, is Fighting Fantasy: Blood of the Zombies. This marks the return from the dead of the famous interactive gamebook series, which celebrated its 30th anniversary recently. On a somewhat lighter note, Wimp: Who Stole My Pants? HD - from Flexile Studio - has been delighting hard-nosed iOS critics everywhere with its whimsical platform-puzzler gameplay. Hunting for undergarments has rarely been this much fun!
In the rather more serious world of iPhone apps, meanwhile, it's Video Time Capsule that's been getting iOS reviewers' knickers in a twist throughout October. The app allows you to record and lock away a message to yourself - whether as an aid to help you stay on course with your hopes and aspirations, or just to track your receding hairline. In second place (or should that be 'plaice'?) is My Fish Log, which helps you quickly identify over 40 different freshwater North American fish. You can also use it check the weather and track your catches, mind. Down in sixth place, Lulu Brush Time is perfect for helping children establish a tooth-brushing routine. Just keep your iPhone away from running water, okay? Finally, Contacts Guard Pro is secure in eighth place, safe in the knowledge it can back up your contacts to a secure cloud-based location, then restore them safely to a new phone.
We'll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which iPhone games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the iPhone Quality Index now.
