Quizball Goal - Developer Diary

Quizball Goal started as a question. What if you combined arcade football with trivia questions? We had long discussions on how you could do it during lunch breaks and after work sessions in the pub. Finally we ended up creating a prototype of the game, the only way to make sure the idea worked was to actually try it out. Even though the prototype was very rough and far away from the game Quizball Goal is today, we knew we had found something with huge potential the first time we played it.

Quizball Goal is a game where you control a team of football players in a match. It plays like a simple arcade football game where you pass the ball around, tackle the opponent and shoot to score. The twist is that every time you shoot, tackle or intercept the ball you have to answer a trivia question that determines if you succeed or fail with your action. The category of the question also depends on what team you are playing as. Play as England and you have a greater chance to receive questions about English football when shooting and intercepting, and the opponent also has to answer questions about English football when trying to save your shots at goal. If you know English football and play someone who is an expert in Spanish football, things get very interesting!

This is roughly the basic idea we had and it is still the core of the game today although many other things have changed along the way. We have added more features like power ups, four player cups, a single player campaign and also reworked the mechanics many times to get them right.

All in all, we are proud of Quizball Goal. We have mixed two genres of games into something that is more than the sum of its parts, and we hope you like Quizball Goal as much as we do.

Quizball Goal is due for release on PlayStation Network in Q1.
