Raylight is shining!

Italy’s leading independent games developer, Raylight, has started 2011 in impressive form. Its two latest games, Sniper Elite and My Little Baby have exceeded expectations worldwide, selling 200,000&80,000 respectively.

With competition in development at an all time high with smaller developers capitalising on downloadable product with innovative features, studios such as Raylight have secured their successes by listening to the needs of publishers and developing technology to exceed their expectations.

Massi Di Monda, CEO of Raylight said,“Never before has so much product been available to the consumer on so many platforms. Apple iTunes is a great example of how developers, large and small, can develop simple and cost-effective games that reach a large audience. We’ve seen the mobile and console markets diversify incredibly well and we’ve had to compete with this. With our recent launches, the publisher requirements were straight-forward– develop a quality and innovative game, on time and on budget. For example, Sniper Elite was a simple project on paper, but in reality it was a challenge. We took a game which was over 5 years old, repackaged it, revised the in-game mechanics to work with the Wii platform and integrate additional features, all on time and on budget. We did this and it is proving a great success.”

My Little Baby is seen by Raylight as a perfect example of their cross-platform development techniques utilising their BlueRoses engine. Developed initially to work on the Nintendo DS platform, the publisher dtp young entertainment requested it be adapted and ported to Nintendo’s Wiiware, PC, Samsung Wave and now Apple iPhone, all within a very small production schedule.

Massi continues;“We like to give our publishing partners as many options as possible in the development of their IP’s. From the outset, BlueRoses is designed to allow cross-platform opportunities to happen quickly and cheaply with no impact on code or QA time. My Little Baby has been a great project for us and we’re pleased to say it is currently one of dtp young entertainment’s most successful titles.”

Building on the success of both games, Raylight is developing as yet unannounced projects on PS3 and Xbox 360, enabling the studio to provide worldwide publishers the flexibility to develop a single game across every popular platform, handheld or console at the same time, leading to greater cost savings for both parties.

Massi concludes,“Overall 2010 was a great year for us. We believe we’re offering more to the consumer and our publishing partners by making the process of game development quicker and more cost-effective than many of our peers. We believe our approach and technology represents a very positive way forward for publishers looking to produce games over a larger number of platforms than they initially thought, with greater cost-efficiencies and greater control.”
