San Francisco, CA – September 21, 2011 – Playhem ( www.playhem.com), the social network that allows friends to play videogames against each others for points and prizes, has announced its public beta phase is over. The site is now officially live - all those that register will now immediately be let in, so take a few seconds to sign up via Facebook Connect and “it’s on!”
Playing videogames with your friends competitively has never been more fun. People can play in individual matches or tournaments for points or cash - Playhem handles verification of game results and the secure transfer of funds between player accounts. Additionally, Playhem also tracks friends, creates custom tournaments, allows you to chat with other gamers, and review earned and wagered points. Over 30,000 challenges were played in August and since the site’s beta launch in February, there have been over one hundred thousand battles. The 30,000 players who were ultimately let in to the public beta logged an average play time of about 40 minutes. Every month, activity on the site has risen exponentially, and Playhem has refined and added features based on the growing community’s feedback.
Partnerships with IGN Entertainment and Caesars Entertainment Corporation, as well as Destructoid.com, are using Playhem’s proprietary technology to power new services for gamers. In conjunction with IGN and Caesars, Playhem is helping power a live tournament event at Caesars Palace in Atlantic City, NJ on October 6 through 9 for the chance to win $100,000. Players can compete for the chance to qualify for the event through Playhem’s site. The tournament is linked with the IGN’s Pro League ( www.ign.com/ipl), whose challenge-gaming platform is also powered by Playhem, where players have the chance to play Starcraft II in a brand new gaming tournament. Professional gamers have the opportunity to compete against other top ranked players for monetary prizes while viewers can watch the action and root for their favorite players. Playhem also recently launched a service called “Fight” with Destructoid.com, allowing community members to play against each other for prizes in a variety of games.
"We are delighted to have officially launched the site and be out of public beta, it’s a very exciting time for us, one filled with strides of improvements and solid partnerships,” said Ryan DeSanto, Co-Founder of Playhem. “While our services continue to grow and we begin to integrate our tech into partners’ efforts, we’ll adhere to our guiding mission to stay simple, legal and completely secure.”
Several important improvements have been made to Playhem, including the addition of Starcraft II. Playhem is the only site that offers auto-verification of Starcraft II matches and the ability to handle 1,024 person tournaments. Tournament sign-ups linked to Starcraft II have also been revamped and are streamlined to make creating an account and signing up for a tournament much easier.
Playhem is continually adding additional support to games from Triple-A publishers. Current games include: Starcraft II, FIFA 11, NHL 11, Madden 11, Madden 12, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, NCAA Football 11, Fight Night Round 4, and Fight Night Champion.
