San Francisco, CA– March 2nd, 2011– In December 2010, Rovio introduced the first downloadable content for Angry Birds, the Mighty Eagle. In the Game Developers Conference today, Rovio has announced that Mighty Eagle will soar across applications.
Rovio is opening up Mighty Eagle as an SDK, and making it available for other developers. This means that developers can integrate the Mighty Eagle functionality into their games, and offer their players a new gameplay experience familiar from Angry Birds.
"The gameplay opportunities of Mighty Eagle are far too massive to be contained in a single game," says Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio. "By offering the Mighty Eagle SDK, we are giving other developers the possibility to take this fun, spectacular experience to their games and apps."
Initially, the Mighty Eagle SDK will be made available for the iOS platform. Remedy will be the first developer in the world to harness the power of avian annihilation in the upcoming racing game Death Rally.
"We're excited to be working with Rovio, and we see Mighty Eagle as a great way to add a fun new component to the addictive Death Rally gameplay. The classic is back and better than ever," says Matias Myllyrinne, CEO of Remedy.
Mighty Eagle can be purchased in Angry Birds. Within the game, Mighty Eagle helps any players that is stuck on a tricky level. The players who have purchased Mighty Eagle will now also have his powers at their disposal in any other game that has integrated the Mighty Eagle SDK.
In the coming months, the Mighty Eagle SDK will be extended to other platforms, as well.
