Royal Netherlands Army Open day features VBS2.

Netherlands– 13th June 2007

The Koninklijke Landmacht (Royal Netherlands Army) recently held a very successful open day for the general public which heavily featured VBS2. All units and/or branches of the Army presented themselves with static shows and engaged in demonstrations of 'combat' actions using tanks, helicopters and fighting infantry-men.

The RNLA open day, held over 3 days, witnessed over 90 thousand visitors touring the facility and experiencing various activities such as the obstacle course, throwing exercise grenades, firing virtual weapons in a small-arms simulator, climbing and abseiling from a climbing tower and experiencing infantry based simulation actions with VBS2.

“Over 1,500 visitors were actively involved in some 5 x 5 VBS2 simulation scenario engagements, with probably twice that number watching the action as spectators.” confirmed the event organiser, Captain Clemens Roos.

The inclusion of VBS2 in the RNLA’s public open day confirms the importance of this simulator in the overall Defence strategy. It also highlights a potential recruiting application of the product due to the immediate association with internet“gaming” by the younger visitors.
