Superlumina - First Contact: a turn-based puzzle-strategy sci-fi game (whoa, that’s a lot of hyphens!)

Straight to Video Games is happy to announce that Superlumina - First Contact will be released on the App Store October 8th, 2013. If you would like to do a review of the game, please contact us at for a promo code.

Superlumina - First Contact is a turn-based sci-fi puzzle-strategy game. It is the first meeting with a vast universe which holds the key to Earth’s greatest mysteries and humankind’s place in the cosmos.

In addition to the full version, a free mini version, Superlumina Humans vs. Aliens, will also be released the same day.

The player battles the aliens on a grid consisting of two halves; the player controls one half and the opponent controls the other. The player has to move the five different types of units of his army around in order to form defensive and offensive formations, create combos and chain reactions.

Campaign: The player has to defeat four different species, each with its own idiosyncrasies.

Quick Battle: The player sets the parameters of the battle, and can play both as and against all five species.

Online mode: The player can challenge friends and play against random players online.

The game is written, designed and produced by Straight to Video Games, a small, startup game company based in Norway.

The company was founded in October 2012 by Helene and Steve Mellbye-Stølen after having talked and dreamed about starting a game company for nine years. Admittedly, we are a bit of a square peg in the round hole that is the gaming industry; a married couple consisting of a lawyer and a banker. But in spite of our off-putting day jobs, games are where our hearts lie, and, hopefully, what we will get to work with the rest of our lives.

Superlumina - First Contact was made in collaboration with the Swedish company Gustlin Studios, who had the daunting job of making our visions come to life in terms of programming, graphics and music.
