Tap! And MacFormat Partner With Neon Play To Turn One
Reader’s Dream Into A Reality

Tap! and MacFormat, Future Publishing’s market-leading technology magazines, have turned one reader’s dream into a reality with the help of specialist mobile games designers, Neon Play.

Back in 2011, Future and Neon Play launched the ‘Design your own game’ competition searching for the next big idea for an iPhone game. And now the winning idea has just launched on to Apple’s App Store!

The champion idea, Rollerhog, was conceived by pub landlord Patrick Jamison and beat off hundreds of others to win this unique competition.

As the name suggests, the new game features a rolling hedgehog, which has to overcome playful obstacles such as pesky rabbits, snapping crocodiles and flowers that must be removed to clear the way.

Oli Christie, CEO of Neon Play, says: “The ‘Design your own game’ iPhone competition was tremendous fun for us in the studio. Everyone always claims they have a cool idea for an iPhone app, but Rollerhog is really special - it’s fantastic that we’ve been able to turn one reader’s dream into a reality and produce a game that will last forever and hopefully be a roaring success with mobile gamers.”

Designed to appeal to a broad range of ages and gamers, the team have high hopes for Rollerhog as it debuts on the App Store priced at just 69p.

As the experts on all things Apple, Tap! and MacFormat were involved in selecting the winning game and the judges unanimously agreed that Rollerhog was a deserving winner.

Graham Barlow, Editor in Chief of MacFormat, comments: “The expert designers at Neon Play have turned a great idea into a fantastic iPhone and iPad game and we’re all very excited to see how Rollerhog will be received by the mobile games community. Apple’s App Store has seen over 25 billion apps downloaded and I’m confident that our readers will certainly give Rollerhog a go. The premise for the game is very solid I wouldn’t be surprised to see it following in the footsteps of popular apps such as Angry Birds!”

Talking of his winning idea, Patrick Jamison says: “It’s very exciting to win such a fantastic prize. I am a keen gamer, so it is particularly thrilling to able to design a game and see it go from a paper outline to a full-blown app on sale!”

Rollerhog is available to download for the iPhone and iPad on the App Store now http://itunes.apple.com/app/rollerhog/id499217397?ls=1&mt=8. It’s only 69p so why not give it a go and let us know what you think!
