Toronto, Canada – December 8, 2011 - Following the number of gameplay additions constantly added to the ever-growing Dawn of Fantasy experience and the recently announced holiday 30% off sale at the game’s website, we figured it would only be fitting to show off what these features were going toward: Siege Warfare. With thousands of units at a player’s command and enough micromanagement tactics to keep anyone busy, Dawn of Fantasy is proud to offer some of the most elaborate and bloodiest siege combat seen in the RTS genre to date. To demonstrate siege combat at its finest, Dawn of Fantasy’s Lead Writer takes players through one such battle in the first Developer Diary video!
Picture this: You’re a respected statesman. You’ve built up a small estate, completed your fair share of quests, and manage several profitable trade routes, perhaps you’ve even been knighted by the king. All’s going swimmingly. That is… until your scouts spot an approaching Elven army from across the Bleather Sea. You have four hundred rallied troops and one layer of wall to stop an army of a thousand dual-wielding infantry units, elite mounted archers, and walking woods taller than any siege tower. Your troops look to you for guidance. Think you have what it takes?
Castle Defense, the defensive counterpart of the Lay Siege skirmish mode, gives players just this opportunity, allowing them to practice defending a prebuilt stronghold in a quick-paced skirmish before trying out their defense on their online kingdom. Defensive players have an impressive array of tricks available to set up before the invading army reaches their walls: Set up spike traps or plant man-eating plants outside your gate to destroy your attackers, position cavalry outside of your walls to trample enemy units, and construct ranged siege weapons and dozens of other wall-mounted siege defenses.
Be prepared to fight off ruthless attacks from the moment you spot the enemy on the horizon. Repair your damaged walls and buildings after every wave, and keep peasants nearby, ready to put out potentially-devastating fires caused by flaming enemy arrows. The first wave is easy, the second... not so much. By the third, your king begs for mercy as the enemy breaks into the inner keep.
This is Dawn of Fantasy. Make yourself at home. And sharpen your sword.
