The Drowning Announces the Toxic Beast Hunt In-game Event

Last week DeNA released The Drowning, an innovative first-person shooter (FPS) game custom built for iPad and iPhone devices that is garnering numerous downloads worldwide. The game had a tremendous opening week on the App Store; The Drowning hit the top five most downloaded free app on iPhone in 16 countries and the iPad version was a top five downloaded free app in an impressive 42 countries.

Following the global debut last week of The Drowning, the game is now launching its first global in-game event today, Thursday, August 8 through Wednesday, August 14 where players can take part in the Toxic Beast Hunt and compete for prizes.

About the Toxic Beast Hunt

There is a rumor spreading amongst the survivors. A new mutation of the creatures has been spotted around the old chemical plant that is more powerful than the ones seen before. Charlotte says it’s not the first time she has seen them; she believes it was a similar mutation that killed her father. That time, they were around for about a week before they died from the mutation that made them stronger—and discolored their skin. At least they should be easy to spot.

Statement from The Drowning Development Team

“It's really exciting to continue the momentum of our worldwide launch with our very first live gameplay event called the Toxic Beast Hunt. This is another real first for a mobile FPS – adding variety to the game in the form of a weeklong competition where our players worldwide get matched up to co-operate and compete to hunt and take down rare and powerful monsters hidden across our game world,” said Ben Cousins, head of DeNA’s European studio operations and general manager of the Scattered Entertainment studio. “The great thing about our Boss Hunt events are that they enable everyone who's enjoying The Drowning to play together using our innovative asynchronous matchmaking system. You could get matched up to co-operate with people in your neighborhood or from the other side of the world. Time zones and schedules don't matter – our game system organizes everything. If you fight effectively as a team with your ad hoc brothers-in-arms you can win items of real value such as rare weapons and other useful equipment. We hope everyone out there enjoys this event. See you on the hunting grounds!”
