One of the sad facts of nowadays game development is that independent teams, especially from eastern countries, are often overlooked by big corporations. Even so, there is a great potential in this emerging branch, nobody seem to care about it. Independent scene have no choice but to seize any opportunity offered and they often succeed in their efforts.
Couple of weeks ago a young group of Czech independent game developers from the Dreadlocks team decided to take an opportunity announced by Microsoft and create a game for upcoming Windows 8. The team members remade their successful debut Rune Legend released in December 2011 for Windows Phone 7 mobiles. They completely rebuild its structure for meeting up all of the metro application requirements and present the game to local Microsoft representatives.
Rune Legend successfully made it through the approval and quality assurance processes. Thus it becomes the very first Czech application for Windows 8 and one of the few from the central and eastern Europe.
Let's hope others will follow shortly. Sample version of the game is available in Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
Let's remind some basics about the Rune Legend. It is an easy going brick-placement puzzle game with an epic story campaign set in the mythological Nordic world. The main plot is about god Odin and his heroic quest for wisdom. Except the 24 campaign levels with fully illustrated story, you can find more than 50 predesigned game plans in additional play modes and random generated content free mode.
