The Gadget Show Live 2010 - a phenomenal success

Gadget Show Live has firmly established itself as the UK’s biggest and best consumer technology event following the phenomenal success of its 2010 show. Taking place at the NEC from 7 to 11 April, the show attracted a record 66,114 attendees, more than double the number in attendance at its launch event in 2009.

Achieving a complete sell-out last year, the 2010 event extended its allocation from two to four halls within the NEC and grew from a three to five day run. Having sold out from Thursday to Sunday, the trade and press day was opened up for a public preview to allow a further 5,641visitors through the door on the afternoon of Wednesday 7 April.

Based on the popular Channel Five television programme, The Gadget Show Live is a collaboration between North One Television, Five and Upper Street Events and provides visitors with the chance to see, try and buy the very latest in technology. The event had more than 200 exhibitors showcasing their latest products, alongside a host of features where visitors trialled exciting gadgetry and games and had their personal questions answered.

Gadget Show Live visitors truly experienced technology of the future and the event has rapidly become a‘must attend’ for tech based companies in the UK. Exhibitors this year included Canon, Panasonic, Packard Bell and Nikon through to Sony, NVidia, Pioneer, Superfi, Olympus, Black&Decker, LG, Dyson, Olympus, PC World, and Segway.

More than 45,000 people attended this year’s Super Theatre which accommodated over 4,000 visitors three times a day. Presenters from the TV show, Jason Bradbury, Suzi Perry, Jon Bentley and Ortis Deley gave a high-energy performance packed with highlights from the TV show, including challenges, audience competitions and appearances from some special guests.

Commenting on the success of this year’s show Matt Hodgins, Event Director at Upper Street Events, said:“Gadget Show Live 2010 was an even greater success than we could have anticipated. Following the success of the consumer show in 2009, we extended the event to include a dedicated half day for the trade and a further one and a half days for the general public. We have been delighted with the response. Exhibitors are telling us that they have achieved record sales and feedback from visitors has been outstanding.

“Next year will bring a whole day for the trade and press and five full days of public admission with 15 Super Theatre performances. We have an option on growing the show into an additional hall and we are looking at a number of very interesting options that will add even more exciting and interactive content to the show. We’re all very excited about the prospects for 2011 and the longer term future for Gadget Show Live.”

Commenting on their attendance at the event, Steve Oaks, Panasonic, says:“The event has been superb. We’ve pre-sold around ten per cent of the UK’s initial supply of Panasonic 3D TVs here at Gadget Show Live, having carried out over 2,500 demonstrations every day.” Grant Ryan, Yike Bike, adds:“The event has been a fantastic way to launch a new product into the UK market. The PR and marketing collaboration with the event organisers has worked incredibly well and enabled us to create huge awareness of the Yike Bike UK-wide”

Tony Cossington, Frequency Telecom&Case Mate said:“The whole event has been fantastic! We have sold more than double the number of products we had targeted. One of our most expensive products sold out on Saturday so we shipped up the same number again for the last day of the show and they were all sold before lunch time. The trade day was also a fantastic addition, the corporate sales we made just in that half day were superb. The Gadget Show Live is definitely going to be the place where tech companies launch their products in the UK in the future.”

Alistair Burroughs, PC World, added:“Gadget Show Live has been an incredible show for us– we’ve almost sold out of certain products. It’s been great in terms of helping develop the brand values of PC World and reach new customers.”

Dominic Jones, Sanyo, summed the show up:“It has been amazingly busy. The stand was packed from the moment the show opened to the moment it closed. We’ve had exactly the right visitor mix for our product range– it has been a fantastic brand building exercise.”
