The global league of the video game champions explores South America

Cologne, February 06, 2012 – Electronic Sports League (ESL), the leading eSports league in Europe, presents the Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge Sao Paulo, the first South American stop of the world famous global league of the video game champions. The event will be held on February 7 – 11 at the Campus Party Brazil, one of the most popular global technology festival encompassing innovation, creativity, science and digital entertainment. The world’s best StarCraft II professional gamers will fight for their share of 21,000 US Dollars, a piece of the total prize purse in the 2011/12 season – 643,000 US Dollars. In addition, top players will receive the right to compete in the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship, which will be held at CeBIT 2012 in Hanover, Germany. The main disciplines of the grand final of the league will be Counter-Strike 1.6, StarCraft II and League of Legends.

In addition to the Intel Extreme Masters competition, the Sao Paulo event will also host a local League of Legends tournament featuring four Brazilian teams competing for a share of 7,000 US Dollar.

Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge Sao Paulo

Intel Extreme Masters, one of the most prominent international tournaments, is getting closer to the end of its 2011/12 season. The best gamers from all over the world compete for the World Champion title and their share of 643,000 US Dollar – the highest prize purse in an international eSports league. The Brazilian event, among other Global Challenges, gives the opportunity to qualify for the grand final of the tournament held this March in Germany. The list of the Global Challenge Sao Paulo participants includes such international StarCraft II stars like Benjamin ‘DeMusliM’ Baker from Great Britain or Kim ‘SuperNoVa’ Young Jin from Korea.

League of Legends tournament

After a double elimination qualifier four Brazilian teams will compete in Sao Paulo in a local League of Legends tournament. The competition will take place on February 7 and will be shoutcasted live at the venue by Diego 'Toboco' Pereira and Guilherme 'Necrosed' Henrique da Silva.
