AGON – Ancient Games Of Nations sets a new quality standard as it offers an in-depth look into the world of extraordinary board games with features that cover both beginner and advanced level players’ demands. Ideal for travelling or for social evenings, it represents a brain-teasing, intellectual entertainment. Players can learn the basic rules and interesting history of rare ancient games, and have great fun playing with each of them.

The iPad is the perfect platform for board games”, said Pierrot, CEO of Private Moon Studios. “ We haven’t made any compromises. A high amount of detail has been paid to the audiovisual appearance and content, so we brought to life these classics with a set of features that will bring players to the world of ancient games closer than anything else before.”

The AGON application is a virtual box, which has twelve compartments to represent the collection of Ancient Games Of Nations. Each compartment will accommodate a board game. The games will be made available one by one by Private Moon Studios. All AGON board games purchased will be automatically integrated in the basic AGON - Ancient Games Of Nations collection. The first two titles, a race game and a combat game is now available on the App Store.

We believe that these kinds of games can provide quality entertainment for modern day people, just like they used to for older generations”, said Krisztian Kasz, Director of Communications at Private Moon Studios.  “ To prove our statement, we have made available for download the first game of the collection for free.”

AGON – Ancient Games Of Nations: The Royal Game of Ur is temporarily available on the App Store for the iPad as a free game.

The Royal Game of Ur:

In the 1920s, British Museum’s archaeologist Sir Leonard Wooley (1880-1960) found a few of these board games in Mesopotamia (Southern Iraq), in fairly good condition. The free game featured on the App Store is a reconstruction of one of these highly treasured artefacts, now part of the Museum’s collection. There is evidence that The Royal Game of Ur was the most popular game of the era. It is a typical race game, the ancestor of today’s race games.

AGON – Ancient Games Of Nations: Alquerque is now also available for $2.99 from the App Store on the iPad.

Alquerque is known as one of the oldest board games, with an exceptionally large number of „offsprings”. In Europe, its most popular descendent is Checkers with a dozen variations, while games of the same family exist in the Americas, in Asia and in Africa too. The game gained wide popularity on its Spanish name Alquerque, and eventually became topmost entertainment as Jeu de Dames in France. Alquerque is a typical combat game. The objective is to capture or at least block all of the opponent’s pieces.
