Unity Pro Licenses Freely Available to Joystick Labs Teams

DURHAM, N.C. - July 7, 2011 - Joystick Labs ( www.joysticklabs.com), an innovative accelerator program focused exclusively on video game companies today announced that Unity Technologies is providing Unity Pro licenses free of charge to studios selected to participate in Joystick Labs accelerator program. Unity is the #1 game engine for creating awesome games and interactive 3D on the web, iOS, Android and consoles.

“Unity was the most popular choice among teams in our inaugural session,” said John Austin, Managing Director of Joystick Labs.“Unity provides an excellent development environment that enables teams to create cross-platform games very easily.  We are excited that Unity Technologies recognizes the talent that we are developing within Joystick and has made these licenses available.”

“Our mission at Unity has always been focused on the democratization of development”, said Tony Garcia, Unity Technologies,  Vice President of Business Development,“By offering new development talent the opportunity to expand their ideas and bring them to life, Unity is the perfect platform for Joystick Labs innovative accelerator program”.

For each game team selected for their program, Joystick Labs provides up to $20,000 seed capital, mentoring, support, and introductions.  Joystick Labs creates a Board of Advisors made up of experienced studio heads, programmers, artists, and marketers who work closely with each team throughout the 12 week program.   The shared experience with other entrepreneurs in the Joystick Labs environment allows the developer to focus on creating a great game and removes uncertainty and risk from the often intimidating process of launching a game studio.  The 12 week program takes place in Joystick Labs at the American Underground in Durham, NC.  Two teams from Joystick Labs’ first session have utilized Unity.  M.U.S.E., from Lab Rats Studio, will be the first to launch in Q3 2011, followed by Saturday Morning RPG from Mighty Rabbit Studios.
